Molten Media Community Trust, Donates 500 computers back into the community in under 10 months.

Molten Media Community Trust is in need of your unwanted computers for a good cause. This year Molten Media have already donated over 500 computers back into the community. These have gone to community group and non-profits such as Adult Reading Assistance Scheme (Christchurch), Phillipstown Community Centre, Tamariki School, New Brighton Blanket Bank as well as to individuals in need.

500 computers sounds like a lot and we could do more but are limited by the equipment that is dropped off to our premises at 205a Wordsworth Street, Christchurch. For instance from the time a person gets approved for a laptop they could wait 2 to 3 weeks for a suitable laptop to become available. We would love to reduce that to a few days but that requires the donation of more suitable equipment from the public as well as from businesses.

As well as providing working computers and laptops, we have also partnered with St Vincent De Paul Hornby by providing computers and parts for their program to supply computers to people in need.

Richard Patrick from St Vincent De Paul Hornby writes;

Three years ago St Vincent De Paul Hornby began a project of refurbishing donated computers systems to families who could not afford them, to special needs, disabled and elderly persons where there was a possibility of life enrichment. Molten Media have very thoughtfully supported this project by donating hundreds of computers and large quantities of parts for the refurbishment process. This has resulted the project being able to gift 370 computer systems to homes in Christchurch, Ashburton and more recently to SVDP South Auckland. Not for profits such as Learning Centres have also benefited from this project.

Donated computers systems have also been sent to schools in the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga and Tuvalu.

Molten Media's contributions have been essential in providing computers and system parts which have not been donated by other donors. Their contributions have made the large scale donations that have been achieved, possible.

Molten Media also accepts any scrap electronics except CRT monitors and televisions as a part of their responsible recycling programme.
