Wellingtonians invited to mind the inequality gap

Joint media statement: Every Child Counts and Child Poverty Action Group 

Award-winning documentary maker, Bryan Bruce will hold a special screening of his documentary on inequality, ‘Mind the Gap’ in Wellington on the evening of Friday 27 September.

Bruce will be in attendance on the night and will address the audience sharing his insights into the making of his documentaries about inequality in New Zealand. The event will run alongside an exhibition (details…?)

Child Poverty Action Group spokesperson Dr Nikki Turner expects the screening will draw those deeply concerned about inequality and child poverty.

“Public awareness of inequality and in particular the plight of young children living in poverty is growing. There is momentum building as our communities question government policies and our nation’s priorities. There are many committed to bringing about change to support our most vulnerable”.

Dr Turner says the evening is an opportunity to meet with Bryan Bruce and gain a better understanding of child poverty. “Bryan has taken an in depth look at the reality of the issues faced by young children and their families living in poverty. Having a better understanding of the conditions that lead to inequality and child poverty can help to build solutions.”

“Bryan Bruce has brought to TV screens some of the most urgent social and economic issues facing the country.  His approach clearly communicates the current and urgent nature of the issues.  His documentaries have reached tens of thousands of New Zealanders with the message that change is essential, as backed up by reports from the Children’s Commissioner, Child Poverty Action Group, Every Child Counts, the Children’s Social Health Monitor and many other groups calling for policies that reduce poverty rates,” says Deborah Morris-Travers, Manager of Every Child Counts.

The public and media are invited to view ‘Mind the Gap’ and hear Bryan Bruce talk about the making of the documentary and his earlier documentary, ‘Inside Child Poverty’ at:
