Council’s Event Fund Helps Community Groups

More than $6000 has been granted to local community groups from Waikato District Council’s Event Sponsorship fund in the latest funding round.

The Mangatangi Historical Group, Ngaruawahia Community House and North Waikato Blue Light Ventures each received approval from the Council’s Water and Facilities Committee for funding for various endeavours.

Council’s Chief Executive Gavin Ion said the three funding applications were varied and would result in events that could be enjoyed by the community.

The Mangatangi Historical Group was granted $800 towards the cost of commemorating 150 years since the building of the three Redoubts within the Mangatangi area. The Group plans to mark the occasion with an afternoon event at the Mangatangi Hall in November 2013, which is hoped will include a military re-enactment with involvement from the local school, community, and Navy and Army personnel.

Ngaruawahia Community House received $3,000 towards the cost of Picnic @ the Point, an event planned for Waitangi Day 2014. It is expected to be attended by around 4000 people and will include music, food, arts and craft stalls.

A further $3,000 was granted to North Waikato Blue Light Ventures Ngaruawahia to be used towards the cost of running fishing trips and a camp to provide local youth with positive and proactive activities in a safe environment.
