Simon Matafai is ready for the local elections.

At only 24, Simon Matafai was selected by the Labour Party to stand as a candidate for the Whau local board. Simon is the youngest ever and first of Samoan descent to be selected for the 2013 Labour Whau team.

From an academic background in law, history and music; Simon has an extensive track record in the community both domestically and abroad. He served on the Avondale College Board of Trustees as the first Student President of Pacific Island descent; also being Deputy Head Boy. Simon has also represented New Zealand, Samoa and the Commonwealth of Nations at various United Nations meetings around the world. He is the current President of the International Pacific Council and ambassador for both New Zealand and Samoa on various international boards for youth empowerment, education, climate change and music.

Simon is also an accomplished musician, philanthropist and community leader. He founded the Matāfai School of Music, Auckland Gospel Choir and is involved in numerous community projects ranging from music labels, Church to pageants and festivals.

The WHAU region is made up of New Lynn, Green Bay, Kelston, Rosebank, Avondale, New Windsor and Blockhouse Bay in Auckland. Voting papers will be available from SEPTEMBER 20. For more information; visit www.voteauckland.co.nz
