Highbury car park to get upgrade

An upgrade and resurfacing of the car park at the Highbury shopping Centre will start next week.

Work will be carried out by Higgins and is expected to take five weeks, weather permitting.

Rob Campbell, programmes team leader says the project includes replacing the broken islands and drainage channels and will be completed in stages to allow time for the concrete to cure before the asphalt is laid.

“Work will then start on remarking and installing wheel stops to prevent vehicles blocking the footpaths,” he said.

An additional disabled parking bay will be added as well.

“The car park was ear-marked for repair due to the weakening of the layers below the asphalt resulting in the development of soft spots and potholes. It is common with car parks of this age,” Rob said.

The work is expected to cost $53,000.
