Hurunui - Waiau Zone Committee meeting

Hurunui - Waiau Zone Committee meeting
The Hurunui-Waiau Zone Committee will meet for its regular monthly meeting in Hawarden on Monday, 16 September.
The committee will begin the meeting with an update from the Regional Committee, before it goes on to focus on the Waipara Catchment.
The committee will discuss the community’s vision and values for Waipara Catchment and how the protection and management of the land can be better integrated with ecological and recreational values.
Next, the committee will turn its focus to water quality in the Jed Catchment, which the community has identified as a particular concern. The committee will specifically look at identifying the primary sources of contaminants in the river and encourage the establishment of a Jed River catchment group.
The committee will finish the meeting with a presentation on farm planning analysis, followed by a discussion on the zone committee refreshment process.
Now that the Zone Committee has reached the end of its three year tenure members need to decide which year their tenure will come to an end, under the terms of the Canterbury Management Strategy.
This will enable the committee to refresh a third of its membership each year for the next three years and ensure new perspectives will be represented on the committee.
As a result there will be an opportunity for new members to join the committee so interested community members should come along to a zone committee meeting to find out more, or contact the zone committee facilitator on 0800 324 636.
