Key decisions from today's Council meeting

Christchurch City Council met today and the following key decisions were made.

Sign of the TakaheThis notable Port Hills landmark will be permanently repaired and strengthened to 67 per cent of the New Building Standard.

Lyttelton Civic SquareThe Council has approved a development plan for a new civic square at 44 London Street, Lyttelton. The square will be used for community gathering, socialising and recreation and will incorporate the cenotaph, public toilets and a playground with a slide and hand-operated water pump.

Draft Main Road Master PlanThe Draft Main Road Master Plan has been approved for release for public comment in late October/November 2013. The Council-led plan has been prepared to support the recovery and rebuild of the Main Road corridor, from Ferrymead Bridge to Marriner Street in Sumner, in response to the damage caused by the earthquakes.

FanfareThe Council agreed that Neil Dawson’s sculpture Fanfare can be located at the northern entrance to the city, on State Highway 1 at Chaney’s Corner. Fanfare is a spherical piece measuring 24 metres high that includes 360 spinning pinwheel fans covering the surface, lit by coloured lights.
