Work begins on new housing development
Work on the development of a new medium density housing development in Hastings has commenced.
Following a competitive tender process, Hastings District Properties Limited (HDPL) awarded Fulton Hogan the contract to develop the infrastructure required for a housing development on the former Council nursery site at 511 Fitzroy Avenue. Fulton Hogan will build the main access way along with secondary access ways to individual sections. They will also lay the underground services including water, wastewater, electricity, and fibre for telecommunication connections. The infrastructure development will take around 8 weeks to complete.
Hawke’s Bay based Horvath Homes will retrofit the existing house and build homes on the eleven new lots to create a quality, medium density housing subdivision with all the houses incorporating strong sustainability initiatives. The development will be in keeping with Council’s strategic direction for sustainable subdivision and building design, with high quality urban living in a more compact form.
Adam Horvath, director of Horvath Homes says “We believe that this subdivision will become the benchmark in Hastings for sustainable development, new home building, and retro-fitting older housing. The building packages include a mix of single and two level stand-alone houses that optimise the best solar orientation for each lot and enables each house to be built to a minimum Homestar® rating of 6 stars. Our development programme includes the retro fitting of the existing homestead.”
HDPL Chairman Peter Snelling says “We are pleased that work on developing this subdivision has begun. Horvath Homes plans for the development are exciting and will ensure that a quality development is created in the heart of a Hastings residential area. A show home will be built on one of the building sites while the balance of the sections will be sold progressively to new home buyers.”
