Council challenges locals to get involved in Keep NZ Beautiful Week

Rotorua District Council is challenging locals to clean-up our city during this year’s Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week activities.

The annual event is one of the largest nationwide community fixtures in the country, and is taking place this year from 15 to 21 September.

RDC Keep Rotorua Beautiful Coordinator Rose Hiha-Agnew said thousands of Kiwis get involved with Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week, including individuals, businesses, schools, and groups who are keen to get out into their communities and help clean-up their piece of Aotearoa.

“Rotorua people are proud of the community we live and work in, so I challenge local groups in our area to get behind Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week.

“We’re encouraging community and iwi groups, schools, kura kaupapa, and all our fantastic local businesses to support this year’s project by organising their own clean-up events or joining other clean-up groups in our city.”

Mrs Hiha-Agnew said 249 sites registered for clean-up in Rotorua last year, with over 40,000 volunteers throughout New Zealand participating in the collection of many tonnes of rubbish.

“Everyone’s efforts resulted in big steps towards keeping New Zealand beautiful. We hope to achieve the same results, if not better, this year.”

Volunteers should contact Rotorua District Council on 07 348 4199 to register their clean-up group, and include how many people will be involved and the area they choose to participate in.

Keep Rotorua Beautiful will provide rubbish and recycling bags, gloves, posters and certificates for participants.
