Council Seeks Members for New District Licensing Committee
Do you have experience in alcohol licensing and want to be involved in making decisions on how alcohol is sold and supplied in the Waikato district?
Waikato District Council is currently seeking expressions of interest from people who would like to be part of a new district licensing committee responsible for considering all alcohol licence applications in our district.
The committee is a new requirement as part of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, which was passed on 18 December 2012 replacing the Sale of Liquor Act 1989.
Waikato District Council General Manager Customer Support Sue Duignan said they were looking for experienced individuals with knowledge of the new Act.
“They need to have relevant experience, and well developed investigative, decision making and communication skills.”
Ms Duignan said they should also have knowledge of the harmful effects of alcohol and must not be involved in the alcohol industry or have any appearance of bias.
Hamilton, Waipa, Otorohanga and Waitomo councils are seeking members as well and a series of advertisements will be appearing in newspapers around the Waikato region advertising these positions.
Ms Duignan said there is the potential for people to be appointed to the committee of more than one of the councils.
