Auckland Transport Statement
Auckland Transport has dismissed a senior staff member as part of an on-going investigation into allegations relating to
the possible misuse of public monies.
Chief Executive David Warburton says the investigation has established serious conflict of interest and performance
issues relating to the staff member involved. The staff member had earlier been placed on indefinite leave.
The issues came to light after an internal review of procurement and contract management procedures. Invoice, contract
and other documentation dating back to 2010 is currently being reviewed and a number of staff, supplier representatives
and other stakeholders have been interviewed. External legal and forensic accounting advice has also been sought and the
Audit New Zealand and Serious Fraud Offices have been advised of developments.
“At this stage we are uncertain how long our investigations will take but expect it will be concluded in weeks rather
than months,” says Dr Warburton.
He says that Auckland Transport is not in a position to make any further comment on the matter as it may involve future
employment issues and/or legal proceedings.
