Stolen Girlfriends Club casts a spell at NZ Fashion Week 2013
Red Bull’s brand new Grey Lynn offices were home to Stolen Girlfriends Club ‘Dirty Magic’ show last night, as part of NZ Fashion Week 2013. Dressed in paisley motifs, heavy velvet and plaid chiffon, models  pounded the concrete to a heavy hitting soundtrack which included The Dead Weather, The Kills, The Horrors, The Datsuns, and more.
And in typical SGC fashion, the party didn’t stop there. Guests were invited to SkyCity’s TwentyOne bar where they were treated to performances from Andrew Tidball, BOYCRUSH and The Datsuns.
The Moon, The Magician, The High Priestess and The Hanged Man have been dug up and polished off in a resurrection of mystery for Stolen Girlfriends Club's latest collection, Dirty Magic, Winter ‘14.
Ancient, hand painted tarot cards and late gothic art give ghoulish inspiration for this rich, dark collection that moves from sheer mesh with velvet flocked Paisley motifs to heavy velvet and plaid chiffon. There is a carnival-after-dark feeling to this range; bell sleeved knits and full length faux leather set the scene for the girls, and slickly tailored shapes like the ‘Le Working’ Blazer and ‘She's Good For Business’ dress make sure nobody's left behind.
For the boys, there are boxy shirts, a Freddy Kruger-esque wide striped knit and the killer wide lapelled ‘Portland’ coat. Worn plaid, referenced from a vintage find and sharpened up with digital printing, comes alive in Bermuda shorts, shirts and tees.
The devil is in the details; an intricate paisley print has been developed with NZ artist Eli Lamont, which comes in gang-like colours. The handmade jewellery is by Fernando Penna, featuring hundreds of can-tabs connected by safety pins. SGC work some magic of their own with their new accessories, featuring a women’s ankle boot with removable thigh-high chaps and a hat offering that would make Sid or Stevie proud.
Misery loves company and in Dirty Magic, it's found a whole new twisted family. Lock your doors.
