BNZ gets behind the fence

Media Release - BNZ gets behind the fence

The campaign to fence Nelson’s Brook Waimarama Sanctuary has a new sponsor and banking partner, with the BNZ ramping up its support for the project.

Sanctuary General Manager Hudson Dodd said the BNZ had come on board as a corporate sponsor and banking partner.

“BNZ staff have been volunteering at the sanctuary for the past few years, as part of the bank’s ‘Closed for Good’ community service initiative, but the BNZ is now keen to increase its organisational involvement with the sanctuary,” he said. “Corporate sponsorship is an important part of our fund raising and we’re very pleased to have the support of BNZ during this crucial period for the project.”

Mr Dodd said at last year’s BNZ ‘Closed for Good’ day 20 of their staff did field work at the sanctuary and they were back on September 4 to help with invasive plant control along the proposed fence line, one of the requirements of the sanctuary’s resource consent.

“The team at BNZ Nelson has shown they’re excited about what a fantastic addition to Nelson the Brook Sanctuary already is, and they see the amazing potential for the fully developed attraction,” Mr Dodd said. “They’re really getting behind the fence.”

BNZ spokesman Stephen Paul said the bank’s decision to increase its involvement with the Brook Sanctuary was ‘pretty simple really’.

“We’re looking for a partnership where we can get everyone at the BNZ involved at different levels, whether it be on September 4 where we connect with our customers and local networks to get a large scale of volunteer labour for the weeding day, through to sharing the vision and story of the sanctuary in the wider market,” he said. “For us it is about contributing to something pretty special to enhance our conservation heritage.”

Volunteers from the community are always welcome to become involved with weeding and other initiatives at the sanctuary, more info at www.brooksanctuary.org
