Myers Park in Auckland's central city remains closed this morning as Police investigating a homicide that occurred there late last night gear up to carry out a scene examination in it.
Pedestrians who usually go through the park on their way to or from work are urged to take another route this morning and Police advise it could be several hours before the area is open to the public again.
Police and ESR scientists will attend the scene in a few hours to begin the scene examination and hope to find clues that will assist identifying the offender in last night's attack after which a man, believed to be in his 50's died. The incident is believed to have occurred at the northern end of Myers Park, an area beneath the Mayoral Drive overbridge.
A person, believed to be a male of medium build wearing a cream top and dark jeans, was seen running from the park towards Karangahape Rd after the altercation and Police want to hear from anyone who has information on either 09 302 6516 or anonymously on Crimestoppers - 0800 555 111.
