Flower bombing shows Christchurch a little love

The All Right? campaign teamed up with the BNZ today (September 4, 2013) to deliver outrageous bursts of all right to people in
Christchurch and Lyttelton.
More than 2000 roses and hundreds of coffees were given out to unsuspecting EQC call centre staff, Stronger Christchurch
Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT) workers, shoppers at Eastgate Mall, teachers at Philipstown School, and parents of
pupils at Lyttelton Main and Lyttelton West schools.
All Right? manager Sue Turner says whether it’s a simple act of kindness or lending a helping hand, the little things we do can
make a big difference to our wellbeing.
“We've all been through a lot in Canterbury over the last three years and there are lots of things about the recovery
that cause frustration and stress. Today was all about brightening people’s day and spreading the joy of giving,” Sue
says.
“We know that the act of giving is a proven way to improve wellbeing. Not only does the recipient benefit, but the giver
does too. Having given out hundreds of roses and coffees today I can definitely attest to the benefits!”
Sue Turner says the day was an opportunity to say thank you to those working tirelessly to progress our recovery, and to
those who have been particularly hard hit by the events of the last three years.
BNZ Chief Risk Officer Renée Roberts says the Bank of New Zealand supported the All Right? flower bombing today as part of its fourth Closed for Good nationwide volunteering day.
“In the Christchurch region we have 400 pairs of hands working in the community, taking part in what is easily New
Zealand’s biggest day of corporate volunteering,” she says.
“Spontaneously giving flowers to people we meet today is a way to lift people’s spirits and emphasise the power of a
random act of kindness.”
Sue Turner says today’s flower bombing was the first of a series of outrageous bursts of all right that the All Right? team will be sharing with Canterbury over the next 12 months. These events will be captured on video and shared online.
