Investigation into harbour oil spill

Media advisory – oil spill
Bay of Plenty Regional Council received a complaint on its Pollution Prevention Hotline about 7.30pm last night about an oil spill in the Tauranga Harbour. The complainant said there was “a visible thick oil spill” between Sanfords and Tauranga Harbour Bridge. This complaint was investigated within half an hour but nothing was spotted. There was an outgoing tide and it is thought any spill may have been dispersed by the tide.
The Regional Council encourages anyone who spots a spill of any kind to contact the Pollution Hotline on 0800 884 883. The Hotline is open 24 hours a day.
