Another wintry blast to come
This week another active trough will spread a bitterly cold southerly change across the country accompanied by snow to
very low levels and large wind chills.
"This dramatic southerly change will sweep northwards during Wednesday, covering much of New Zealand by day's end,"
commented MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett. "Snow is expected to fall to low levels
about southern and eastern parts of the South Island and the lower North Island. At this stage, significant snow
accumulations are expected to be limited to the ranges and higher level roads of both islands, including the central
plateau and Rimutaka Hill Road. However, people about Southland, Clutha and Dunedin should expect snow to near sea level
during Wednesday."
This sharp cold wintry blast will be challenging for farmers in the midst of lambing, with the risk of snow down to low
levels and extreme wind chills. Snow is likely to cause disruption to traffic, especially about the higher level roads
of both islands.
