Key decisions from today’s Council meeting

The Christchurch City Council meeting continued today with the key decisions made outlined below.

Ellerslie International Flower Show
The Council approved recommendations from the Community, Recreation and Culture Committee that will help re-energise the 2014 Ellerslie International Flower Show.

The recommendations included allowing staff to negotiate a one-year agreement for the management of the show, which can be extended for an additional five-year term after the delivery of next year’s show. It was also agreed a full review be carried out within 10 weeks of the completion of the 2014 show, to consider its long-term future.

St Martin’s Voluntary Library
The Council agreed St Martin’s Voluntary Library, 3 Wades Avenue, should be demolished. The Council also agreed in principle to ring-fence the insurance proceeds for a future community facility that includes space for the voluntary library.

The building was significantly damaged in the earthquakes and has been mostly demolished under a CERA Section 38 Notice of Demolition. Council staff will continue to work with the community to look at the future of the facility.

Scott Park Petanque Club and toilets
The Council agreed the Scott Park Petanque Club and toilets in Mount Pleasant should be demolished. A replacement public toilet has been proposed as part of the planned redevelopment of Scott Park and the Coastal Pathway. Portable toilets will be placed on site in the meantime.
