Clive War Memorial Swimming Pool to receive $2m upgrade
Detailed planning is well under way for the $2m upgrade of the Clive War Memorial Swimming Pool. The plans for the upgrade were included in the Hastings District Aquatic Strategy which was approved by Council in March 2011.
Acting Group Manager Community Facilities and Programmes Craig Thew says “The primary focus of the upgrade will be to improve the water quality in the pool, with changes to the filtration, pipework, and pumps. There will also be work done on the efficiency of the heating and air handling system, making the atmosphere for all users more enjoyable. The project will also include the replacement of the roof of the building and sections of the external walls.”
Craig Thew says “Design work on this upgrade has almost been completed and tenders will be called in September. The pool will close on the 27th September to allow preparation of the site, which will enable contractors to begin their work from October. There is significant structural and reticulation work to be carried out and it would not be possible to carry this out if the pool wasn’t closed during the construction period.”
Councillor Rod Heaps says “I am confident that the upgrade to be carried out at the Clive Pool will improve the facility for all users in the future. Once the project is completed, Council will work with users to restart programmes at the pool.”
Mr Thew says “Council is confident that the programmed work will complement the improved financial performance of the facility, with the previous financial risks to the community now under control.”
The rebuild project will take between 5 and 6 months to complete.
