Temple building day and night

Work on the Temple for Christchurch is now happening day and night at the site of the former convention centre as the
crew strive to complete construction. Due to unexpected delays the community mental health project and art installation
is not likely to meet it's September 1st opening date. Thanks to the donation of a light tower by Access Man they have
expanded their hours and are working from 10am until 10pm. Their aim is for the installation to be open in time to
commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the first quake on September 4th., but the project is in need of more volunteers to
be able to achieve this goal.
“We feel that is is very important to have the Temple open by September 4th” said Project Manager and Artist Hippathy
Valentine. “The task ahead of is achievable but we need more hands on deck to get the job done” he said.
Over the past eight weeks the structural frame of the Temple has been built and it is now being clad with reclaimed
demolition timber. People are invited to come down and join in on the process.
“Cladding the Temple is a fun and simple task that can be completed by anyone so why not come on down to the Temple site
and lend a hand” Hippathy said.
Work hours are 10am – 10pm on the site of the former convention centre at 100 Peterborough St.
