Waikato Expressway SH1 northbound lane closure
The NZ Transport Agency is advising drivers that as part of ongoing construction of the Rangiriri Section of the Waikato
Expressway, there will be a lane closure for State Highway 1 (SH1) northbound traffic on Monday 2 September and Tuesday
3 September.
The road will be reduced to one lane for drivers heading north near Te Kauwhata, with manual traffic Stop/Go operation
in place, between 7.30pm and 5.00am on both nights.
A speed restriction of 30 km/h will be in place during the night and drivers are advised by the Transport Agency to
expect delays. Also traffic at the Te Kauwhata intersection wanting to head to Auckland on SH1 will be controlled by
manual Stop/Go signs.
During the day, traffic through the site will be restricted to 80 km/h. This work is to allow for concrete median
barriers to be installed along this section of SH1 which will enable construction to start on the Te Kauwhata
Interchange.
In the event of adverse weather or any other factor that may delay the work, the lane closure will happen on the next
suitable day.
The Transport Agency would like to thank all residents and motorists for their patience while this work is being
undertaken.
Motorists can find information about most road closures, detours and road works by calling the NZTA’s free phone on 0800
4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49), which can also be used to report any significant road issues or hazards which people may come
across during their travels.
The NZTA also uses other technology to provide information to enable drivers to make better informed choices about their
travel. On The Move is a free service which enables people to sign up for information about crashes, road works and
driving conditions on their frequently used routes - to sign up, go to www.onthemove.govt.nz.
