On-ramps open as congestion eases on Auckland motorway
The NZ Transport Agency says severe congestion citybound on Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway (State Highway 16) has eased and the Hobsonville Road and Royal Road on-ramps east-bound have been re-opened.
However, eastbound motorway traffic remains restricted to one lane under the Lincoln Road interchange while repairs are made to the highway surface there.
The interchange is being upgraded by the Transport Agency. When a crack developed between the inside lane and the shoulder overnight, the lane was closed as a safety precaution by the Transport Agency. The closure affected morning peak traffic and lead to long queues of traffic heading into the city.
Repairs to the highway surface are continuing and are expected to be completed later today.
Westbound traffic on the Northwestern Motorway is not affected.
