SCIRT traffic update - from 26 August, 2013

Central city

Moorhouse Ave eastbound at the Colombo overbridge

Just one lane eastbound over the bridge for a few more days.

Fitzgerald Ave northbound, near the bridge, Kilmore St/ Avonside Drive

No right turn onto Avonside Drive for two weeks, two lanes northbound.

Victoria St, from Peterborough to Kilmore (ongoing)

Victoria St past the Christchurch Casino is southbound only for about three more weeks.

Montreal St, Salisbury St to Bealey Ave (ongoing)

This northern end of Montreal St is down to one lane for three months.

Beyond the Four Avenues

North Avon Road, Richmond – detour to access Stanmore Road

• Between Stanmore Road and McLeod St (west side towards Hills Road) North Avon Road is closed to traffic for three weeks to mid September. (Downer SCIRT work)

• East of Stanmore Road between Petrie St and North Parade, North Avon Road is closed for six weeks. A detour is available off North Parade onto Randall and Petrie Sts. (McConnell Dowell SCIRT work)

Hills Road, Shirley, north of Edgeware Road, will be one-way, northbound only for a month.

Frosts Road, North New Brighton, which links Mairehau Road and Anzac Drive, is one-way, northbound for the next six weeks as the road is rebuilt. Beach Road and Bower Ave is the southbound detour.

New Brighton Road/ Bower Ave intersection is closed for about ten more days in order to move the long wastewater pipes into place on Bower Ave. Detour routes are Palmers Road and Anzac Drive. Metro No 7 bus is detouring along Wattle Drive. Metro No 40 bus-stops on New Brighton Road between Pages and Wainoni Roads have shifted to Wainoni and Seaview Roads.

Wrights Road/ Matipo Street, Middleton, is almost fully restored with the big new pressure wastewater pipe in place. Kerbing, road marking and replacing traffic islands is the last stage.

Projects coming September

Grange St, Opawa – closed from 2 September (likely date) for a month.

Mid September – intersection of Holmwood and Fendalton Roads. Major project starting, the Wairakei Diversion, more details to come.

Weekend of 13 -15 September: Brougham St’s Opawa Heathcote bridge closure, detour Opawa and Garlands Road, first of six to eight weekend closures of this highway bridge between mid September and December for final stage of the bridge’s repair.
