Buoyant Housing Market Sees Auckland Home Show Boom
Any uncertainty about the renovation and building industry has totally disappeared as the Auckland Home Show sees a
dramatic surge in confidence amongst builders, retailers and home-owners alike.
About to launch into its 34th Show, the five day event takes over the ASB Showgrounds from 11 – 15 September, with more
than 48,000 visitors expected to attend armed with plans, shopping lists and credit cards.
Exhibition Director Amanda Magnus says confidence is up right across the board.
“Home builders are back in force at the show, reflecting rising demand in new homes, and the surge in renovation
continues unabated, with so many ways people can make good capital gains from fixing up or improving existing homes,”
she says.
“Kitchens, bathrooms and energy efficient technologies continue to be core areas of interest at the Auckland Home Show,
as these are the places that add the most value to the home,” she says.
The show is the largest of its kind in Australasia and continues to be the go-to exhibition for building, renovating,
home-improvements and sustainable living.
With more than 500 exhibitors showing this year, there is something for absolutely everyone, from the greenest rural
retreat to the urban loft, including the indoors and the outdoors.
This year there is a focus on interaction with experts, so visitors can meet and talk with specialists and take home
relevant and helpful tips on how to improve their projects.
Leading the team of experts will be Murray Kee from Finesse Residential, a renovation expert, and interior designer
specialist Amanda Neill from Designworx. Visitors can bring in their photos, brochures and ideas and discuss their
upcoming projects to ensure they get a finished product which suits their needs, style and budget.
The ‘Smeg Cooking Theatre’ returns with live cooking demonstrations by world class chefs led by Paul Jobin, former
Executive Chef at The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs. And following on from last year is the extremely popular ‘Kids Can Cook’
competition, where kids submit their own recipes and then compete in a cook-off to find the ultimate child chef in New
Zealand.
‘The Working Space’ feature will be all about homes of the future, showing how technology will be used and integrated in
living spaces. More than a dozen companies are involved giving visitors the opportunity to experience the future of
appliances, surfaces, colour, touchscreen interactive technology, gardening, interior and spatial design.
Anyone in need of some further design inspiration can source some fantastic ideas from the Resene ‘Design Renovate
Decorate Seminars’. Presenters will be sharing the latest in colour trends, decoration and budgeting.
The ever-popular ‘Green Urban Living Seminars’ will provide inspiration on how to bring sustainability into daily home
life and the Auckland Landscape Supplies ‘Walk of Gardens’ and Hot Spring Spas ‘Street of Houses’ will showcase current
and future landscaping trends for all outdoor areas, and alternative housing options such as luxury RVs.
As always, the show will be full of show specials, discounts and competitions and visitors are urged to bring their
plans and save thousands on advice, products and services. The feature competition this year is an ultimate spa package
from Hot Spring Spas worth $25,270.
And this year, an Auckland Home Show first; an APP will be launched which will include competitions, maps, show
specials, new products, timetables and links to social media. The Home Show APP eShowbag delivers users well over
$50,000 in renovation savings.
