Out with the old, in with the new
Out with the old, in with the new
Have you been eyeing that latest flat screen LED television for some time? The HD 80’’ screen your mates will envy when watching your favourite sports team, but you are left with the difficult question on what to do with your out-dated TV.
Hutt
City Council has partnered with Remarkit to collect unwanted
TV’s on Sunday 25 August from 9am – 4pm at the Riverbank
car park, Daley Street, Lower Hutt.
Hutt City Council
Environmental Sustainability Manager Jez Partridge says,
‘’Dumping TV’s in the environment or at landfills
should be avoided.
‘’Old TV’s contain toxic
contaminants as well as reusable resources and should be
recycled. The process of disassembling the TV’s and
committing the parts to the appropriate treatment is not
cheap.’’
Ministry for the Environment following
its success in Hawke’s Bay and West Coast will be
launching its TV TakeBack initiative into the Lower North
Island region from 21 August to October. As the country goes
digital, some New Zealanders will use this opportunity to
upgrade their TV so it is Important that any unwanted TV’s
are recycled responsibly.
The Government has committed
money to subsidise the cost to the public for dropping off
their TV for recycling as Going Digital progresses around
the country.
For a limited time you will be able to take advantage of a government subsidy and recycle your old TV for no more than $5.
Residents are encouraged to drop
off their TV’s as soon as they can to avoid the
disappointment of being charged higher when the regions cap
is reached to cover the full cost of recycling.
