Expressway decision welcomed says Mayor

Kāpiti Mayor Jenny Rowan has welcomed the High
Court decision on the Mackays Crossing to Peka Peka
expressway.
“I respectfully acknowledge the right of people to challenge the government in court over the project, but it’s now time to move on. The High Court has dismissed both appeals on all grounds.”
Mayor Rowan said she had long held the view that the majority of people on the coast wanted the road and the second bridge over the Waikanae River.
“This decision brings certainty. That is what people are now looking for.”
She said the $500
million project would provide a huge injection for the local
economy. “This expressway is going to happen. Our job is
to ensure we get the best possible result for our community.
Part of that will be ensuring local businesses benefit. That
is the next
step.”
