Statement from Jane Parfitt, Acting Christchurch City Council Chief Executive, on meetings to resolve rates resolutions
Christchurch City Council Acting Chief Executive Jane Parfitt met with the Department of Internal Affairs and the Office of the Auditor-General last Friday.
“We had a useful discussion with the Department of Internal Affairs and we both came to the same conclusion regarding the error in rates’ resolutions that the Council faces,” Mrs Parfitt says.
“It is clearly a Council role to correct the rates resolutions for this and previous years. We have identified ways of doing this for the year ahead and also for previous years since 2004.
“Similarly we had a good discussion with the Office of the Auditor-General and they are in the process of going back over their records to confirm the facts of this situation. This is expected to take some time.
“We are now in a position to prepare a report for the Council to consider at its Council meeting on Thursday 29 August. It will be in the public section of the meeting.”
