Context Architects Appoints South Island Director
Context Architects has appointed Alisdair Daines to the position of director of its South Island operation. New Zealand
Institute of Architects’ Associate Alisdair brings more than 18 years’ experience of leading a successful Nelson
architectural practice. He is relocating with his family to contribute to the Christchurch rebuild and lead Context’s
Canterbury team.
Alisdair has extensive practice and business management experience, as well as expertise in running major commercial,
industrial and residential projects across the South Island. His strong relationships with contractors will be
invaluable in his new role, particularly given the high demand for skilled tradespeople in the region.
“Alisdair’s business acumen and experience in managing large and complex projects is a boon for Canterbury and Context.
His expertise and local knowledge means he understands the market, and he is a proven leader,” explains Context director
and founder Stephen Voyle.
“I’m excited about being part of the Christchurch rebuild, and delivering beautiful, sustainable, contemporary
architecture that exceeds Cantabrian’s expectations,” says Alisdair. ‘And Context’s record of working with clients to
deliver excellent design, on time and on budget is a great fit with my values.”
As well as being a design license assessor for the Ministry of Building Innovation and Employment; Alisdair has detailed
knowledge of the RMA, the NZ Building Code, the Building Act and the Historic Places Act. When he’s not leading teams of
architects, Alisdair can be found at the helm of his boat, where he has represented New Zealand in three Flying Dutchman
class world championships. He also enjoys playing and listening to music, the odd mountain bike ride, and is partial to
a glass of great local wine.
