Young Candidate Taking It to the Streets

Annette Brosnan, one of this year’s youngest local body election candidates, says her campaign and door knocking is now well underway. Annette is standing for Napier City Council’s Tamatea/Onekawa ward.

Annette has taken on the challenge of knocking on approximately 4,400 doors to personally introduce herself to the people in her ward, since the end of July she has visited 1715 homes, spending over 50 hours walking the streets.

“I am not going to stop knocking on doors until I have personally met and introduced myself to everyone” “even though it keeps raining on me!” Annette says. “A lot people tell me I am the first person they have ever met from Council” and “regardless of whether I had competition or not, this is something I was committed to doing.”

“It has been fantastic getting to understand the issues that are important to people”, she says. “Putting in the effort and being approachable are big drivers for me standing this year, I want people to know me personally, and know that I will put in the hard yards for them”

Annette says “it has also been great to have the support of a wide range of current Councillors and community leaders in my campaign” “I think everyone really approves of my approach to representing this City”

The areas Annette is most passionate about are building safe family communities, supporting business development and promoting sustainable urban development policies, along with really being approachable. Annette urges anyone who is interested in the details of what she stands for to have a look at her profile on http://www.vote.co.nz/2013/candidates/annette-brosnan-7518.

Annette says “There will always be ways Councils can improve and I’m here to be active in those decisions for this city’s future”. Annette says “The latest report on amalgamation shows there will be no difference for you and I ratepayer in our pockets, so why would we want to lose local democracy for nothing?”

Annette’s campaign slogan is Our Neighbourhood Our Voice - accessible and active local government.

“Being approachable is a big part of the Councillor I want to be, I want people to know me personally because that’s what I think local government is all about, knowing the person who’s standing for you and your family”

Everyone on the New Zealand electoral role will be sent voting papers by mail in the last week of September with voting closing at midday on 12 October.

With so much enthusiasm for this city and local politics this young woman is one to watch!
