Garden ideas spring forth at Hollards
19 August 2013
There’s no need for the home gardener to feel overwhelmed as spring brings plants back to life – a free workshop at Hollard Gardens, Kaponga, on Sunday (25 August) will focus on the best ways to prepare for the new season.
Workshop participants will see what preparations for spring have been made at Bernie’s Home Garden, the trial and demonstration area at Hollards, and pick up ideas on growing new and interesting ingredients for the table.
The workshop will cover perennial vegetables such artichokes, (Jerusalem and globe), asparagus, chokos, and New Zealand spinach, with tips on how to grow them and keep them growing through the seasons.
Other topics will include soil and site preparation, and how to pH test your soil.
Sunday’s workshop runs from 2pm to 4pm at Hollard Gardens, 1686 Upper Manaia Road, Kaponga.  It is part of a year-round programme of free workshops and other events at Hollard Gardens, Pukeiti and Tupare, the three heritage properties owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region.
