Manurewa Town Centre a Hive of Activity
The Manurewa Local Board and Manurewa Business Association are welcoming new statistics which say that retail spending has increased by 16.6% over the past 12 months.
Manurewa Business Association Chair and local shop owner Ken Penney says this is fantastic news for a town centre which previously has been given bad rap in the media.
"A 16.6% increase in retail spending in our town centre is a huge leap and says that business is alive and well in Manurewa." Mr Penney Says.
"This is positive news and is a direct result of a large amount of work put in by the Manurewa Business Association to promote Manurewa as a great place to shop and do business."
Town Centre Manager Wendy Dunn says she is very pleased by the news and says she hopes to see the trend continue over coming years.
"A 16.6% increase in retail spending is a big increase over last years retail spend and i hope to see this continue to grow in coming years." Says Ms Dunn. a
"New businesses have been setting up including five new businesses which have moved in recently, including Maori Party MP Dr Pita Sharples opening an office in Manurewa.
"The Manurewa Business Association has been working hard to encourage people to shop in Manurewa and has significantly increased security initiatives in recent years to make the town centre a safe, secure destination to visit and shop in.
"Our town centre ambassadors have been a big part of creating this positive image.
Manurewa Local Board Chair Angela Dalton is delighted to hear the news and says this is great for the local economy.
"More businesses and more spending means more jobs for local people and helps ensure people work close to where they live." Says Ms Dalton.
"The Manurewa Local Board is committed to our town centre and ensuring it thrives. This is the hub of our community and we are continually encouraging residents to shop locally. We are also committed to the town centre's safety by putting in new CCTV cameras so that we can ensure that the town centre is a safe place to work and shop.
Ms Dunn explains that there are many good people who work and live here. The Manurewa Business Association is commmited to making the best shopping experience for all in Manurewa.
"We are also very supportive of the work of new Town Centre Manager Wendy Dunn who is committed to ensuring that the town centre provides a positive shopping experience for everyone."
