Affordable Auckland Announces Waitakere Candidate
Henderson-Massey Local Board member Peter Chan has announced that he will be standing as a candidate for Affordable
Auckland in the Waitakere ward. “My priority is offering a local government structure that is transparent in its
operations while offering excellent value for money to ratepayers.”
Peter Chan brings a wealth of experience to the table, having previously been a member of the Massey Community Board for
2001-2004, a Waitakere City Councillor for 2004-2010 and a member of the Henderson-Massey Local Board since 2010.
“Since Waitakere was brought into the Super City, we have seen rates, spending and borrowing skyrocket. At the same
time, house price inflation has shut our young people out of the housing market. We are watching this generation become
a generation of renters. Affordable Auckland offers the policies to turn this damning trend around.”
Mr. Chan believes that when ratepayers have more of their own money left in their own pockets, we will see a reversal in
current worrying statistics. “The Council cannot spend your money better than you can. You wouldn’t risk your money on
an artificial white water rafting park or pay skateboarders to teach other skateboarders manners. Why let the Council
take your money to do so on your behalf?”
Mr. Chan is also standing for Henderson-Massey Local Board on the Henderson Massey Residents Group ticket.
