Warm Dunedin Trial Coming to an End

Warm Dunedin Trial Coming to an End

Dunedin (Friday, 9 August 2013) – Time is running out for ratepayers wanting to take advantage of the Warm Dunedin targeted rate programme.

The Warm Dunedin trial programme finishes at the end of this month to coincide with the end of the general funding for insulation provided by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority’s Energywise Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart programme.

Dunedin City Council Energy Manager Neville Auton says it is possible the Energywise insulation funding will run out before the end of August and, if this happens, the Warm Dunedin programme will finish at the same time.
The Warm Dunedin targeted rate programme provides a rates advance to help with the upfront costs of installing insulation and/or clean heating.
So far, 380 Dunedin homes have had insulation and/or heating installed through the pilot programme.

Ratepayers who meet the criteria can apply to the DCC for up to $5000 towards insulation and/or efficient heating, which will be paid off over 10 years using a targeted rate. Repayments start in July 2014 and interest of 8% a year is charged from the time the service provider is paid.

Only DCC-registered service providers can be used for the Warm Dunedin programme. Ratepayers can get multiple quotes and choose which service provider they use.

Mr Auton says once the trial is complete it will be evaluated and the results presented to the Council.
