Rain at times this week
A brisk northwesterly flow over the coming days will bring spells of rain, mostly over western parts of the country.
MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented, "There will be some rain at times over the coming days as a result of passing troughs, but there will also be some decent dry weather, especially across eastern and northern areas."
A trough will slide across the country on Tuesday, bringing showers and the risk of thunderstorms along the West Coast of the South Island and Taranaki.
Another more active trough will bring further wet weather from midweek.
This unsettled theme will continue beyond midweek, with the potential for a sub-tropical low to spread rain from the north this weekend. Five days ahead, there is still some uncertainty in the position of the low and the forecast could change before the weekend. The risk of severe weather can be monitored at http://metservice.com/warnings/severe-weather-outlook.
