Chocolate Factory Explodes onto Wellington’s Culinary Scene
A Pop-Up Chocolate Factory will light up the heart of Wellington from 9 to 25 August where tens of thousands of chocolates will be made for the upcoming New Zealand Chocolate Festival (NZCF).
For seventeen days chocolates destined for the New Zealand Chocolate Festival will be made by chocolatiers in full view of the public.
“Hundreds of kilos of chocolate need to be melted, tempered, shaped, dipped and piped in preparation for the festival coming up in September”, says NZCF Manager Frank Stoltenberg.
“The Pop-Up Chocolate Factory will allow everyone to have a good look at this process and how the festival’s chocolates are made.
“Visitors to the factory will also have a chance to make their own chocolate truffles to take home or eat right there on the spot if temptation proves to be too much.”
Stoltenberg says that the festival’s chocolate factory experience was such a huge success last year that a decision had been made to set up a Pop-Up Chocolate Factory ahead of the festival for an extended period this year in order to satisfy demand.
“Last year the chocolate factory was full during the three days of the sell-out festival and we reached maximum capacity in the Culinary Theatre and the Chocolatiers Studio too.
“So this year the Pop-Up Chocolate Factory will go a long way to making sure people don’t miss out on making their own chocolates or seeing demonstrations on how to work with chocolate.”
The Pop-Up Chocolate Factory, which is free to the public and part of Visa Wellington on a Plate, is also expected to satisfy the chocolate hungry people who aren’t able to attend the festival in September or for those that are looking to have an affordable fun day out during winter.
“There is no charge to visit the Pop-Up Chocolate Factory so we are looking forward to seeing thousands of people, many families and groups of friends, all enjoying a fantastic winter’s day out that won’t break the bank but will make everyone happy“, says Stoltenberg.
