World’s Finest Champagne Finds Its Match In Queenstown
For Immediate Release
Friday 2nd August 2013
Champagne lovers and foodies enjoyed canapés expertly matched with Veuve Clicquot at last night’s Clicquot in the Snow Veuve Clicquot Champagne Evening, hosted at Pier 19. Local foodies and Queenstown tourists enjoyed five of Veuve Clicquot’s finest champagnes: NV Brut, Vintage 2004, Rosé, Vintage Rosé 2004 and La Grande Dame 2004.
Pier 19, renowned for mixing classic favorites with contemporary new tastes was the perfect venue to deliver a menu that embodied Veuve Clicquot’s ‘zeste de folie’ - extravagance with a twist. Chef Joff Bertrand created a collection of stunning Maori inspired canapés to perfectly match the five champagnes.
Veuve Clicquot NV Brut was paired with lemon tempura wild tia (venison) haggis; Veuve Clicquot Vintage 2004 was matched with confit titi (mutton bird) with flying fish caviar and puha foam; Veuve Clicquot Rosé was served alongside keke (duck) liver and koati (goats) cheese parfait; Veuve Clicquot Vintage Rosé 2004 worked perfectly with scarlet okiha (ox) tongue nori maki sushi; and Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2004 was devoured with crisp skin confit wild poaka (pork) belly with seared tupa (scallops).
“The evening was so incredible and the guests were delighted!” Says Pier 19 director, Karen Hattaway.
“It was such a great way to try the vintages of Clicquot complimented with our native food theme. All in all it was a huge success and I can still taste the Vintage Rosé 2004 on my lips - delicious!”
Veuve Clicquot senior brand manager Rai Banbury, was impressed with the turn out. “It’s fantastic to see so many people embracing the versatility of fine champagne in new ways. My personal favourite match was La Grande Dame 2004 with pork belly.”
Clicquot in the Snow continues until Sunday. Highlights include the ‘Clicquot Night Ski’ at Coronet Peak on Friday, ‘An Evening with Kathryn Wilson’ at The Hills on Saturday and finally the ‘Clicquot Sports Sessions’ at Barmuda on Sunday.
