Storylines Festival Gets Party Started at City Library
Dunedin (Friday, 2 August 2013) – The annual Storylines Festival Free Family Day turns 20 this year, and is once again
touring New Zealand. The first place to party will be the Dunedin City Library on Saturday 10 August, from 11am.
Children and parents will have the chance to get their books autographed and chat with the people who create some of New
Zealand and Australia’s most popular children’s story books. This year, two Australian heavyweights will be part of the
action: Isobelle Carmody, author of the acclaimed Obernewtyn Chronicles, and Rachel Spratt of Nanny Piggins fame.
In addition, local writer and President of the New Zealand Society of Authors Kyle Mewburn will be back to celebrate his
latest award-winning story, Melu, alongside new local writer Rachel Stedman, and Sandy McKay.
Award-winning illustrators Robyn Belton and Raymond McGrath will be on hand all day to guide budding artists, while
Clifford the Big Red Dog, Peter Rabbit and Spot the Dog will be returning to give hugs and handshakes. This will be a
great photo opportunity for families.
There will be lots of activities for children, such as the Orokonui Ecosanctuary Make a Zine (a small-scale magazine)
with DUD Comic Collective frontman Spencer Hall and face painting by Make-Up Artistry students from Aoraki Polytechnic.
There will also be the chance to get close to creepy crawlies with writer and photographer Simon Pollard and get stuck
in to some great craft activities, including Melu fridge magnets and scary bug masks.
A fundraiser sausage sizzle by the Dunedin Parents’ Centre, candy floss by Land SARS, and good coffee will keep
everyone’s batteries running. We hope to see you there!
