Waikato’s finest homes revealed
A new home build and a renovation in Hamilton have been named this year’s top Waikato homes, winning Supreme Awards in
the Waikato Region Registered Master Builders 2013 House of the Year.
Stewart Hanna Limited scooped six regional awards, including the Registered Master Builders Supreme Award for the House
of the Year and the Carters New Homes $1 million - $2 million category for a home in Hamilton. The company also received
the Craftsmanship Award, the Outdoor Living Award, the Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award and the Carpet Mill
Interior Style and Finish Award.
Glenn Diffey Builders Limited was awarded the Registered Master Builders Supreme Award for the Renovation of the Year,
as well as the Renovation Award up to $250,000, for a home in Hamilton.
Stewart Hanna Limited’s build impressed judges who said this is a fantastic example of the client, builder and architect
working together to seamlessly create a home to be desired.
“Built on a north-facing site and overlooking a large reserve, the team has cleverly used Hinuera stone and cedar
vertical boarding on both the interior and exterior of this home to create a beautiful flow effect.
“Full of quirky features and rare intricacy, including a stunning feature wall that also functions as a bathroom door,
this home is tastefully unusual. Built-in furniture is flawlessly detailed and outdoor living areas are immaculate – the
execution of workmanship in this build is stunning.”
Originally built in the early 1900s, judges said Glenn Diffey Builders Limited’s renovation is a magnificent example of
the builder capturing and retaining the character of the original home.
“A relatively small renovation and extension, the builder has paid finite attention to matching or sourcing materials
and features that were applied in the original home, including vertically sliding double hung windows that are an
excellent replica of the originals.
“A high level of craftsmanship and a trusting relationship with the client that has been built up over many years has
transformed this home into an elegant piece of paradise for the homeowners.”
The builders’ entries were recognised by members of the Waikato Region Registered Master Builders and the local building
industry at Claudelands Conference and Exhibition Centre on Friday, 26 July.
There were 16 Gold Award winners from the Waikato Region which will now be assessed alongside Gold Award winners from
the 10 other regions of the competition to find the National Gold Reserve finalists, which will be announced in August.
National category winners, Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for the Renovation of the Year and the House of the
Year will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in November.
