Canterbury’s finest homes revealed
A new home build in Merivale and a renovation in Sumner have been named this year’s top Canterbury homes, winning Supreme Awards in the Canterbury Region Registered Master Builders 2013 House of the Year.
Phil Benton Builders scooped four regional awards, including the Registered Master Builders Supreme Award for the House of the Year and the Westpac New Homes over $2 million category for a home in Merivale. The company also received the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award and the Outdoor Living Award.
Corbel Construction Limited was awarded the Registered Master Builders Supreme Award for the Renovation of the Year, as well as the ITM Renovation Award $250,000 - $500,000, for a home in Sumner. The company also received a Gold Award in the Nulook New Homes $600,000 - $1 million category and the Resene Sustainable Home Award for a home in Fernside.
Phil Benton Builder’s new home build impressed judges who said this home exhibits flawless execution of workmanship.
“The custom-made fittings and joinery are exceptional – beautifully detailed, crafted and finished. For such a large and difficult build, this is a real achievement.
“A home created for entertaining, the kitchen is the hub of the entertaining area and extensive outdoor living options cater to the lifestyle of the owner. An immaculately constructed concrete spine wall runs the length of the home, exposed both internally and externally, creating a sense of substance and permanence in the home,” judges said.
“This home is a real show of excellence, and extremely worthy of the Supreme Award.”
Judges said Corbel Construction Limited’s Supreme Award-winning renovation is a beautifully composed building, boasting superb detailing, fantastic indoor/outdoor flow and efficient use of well-proportioned spaces.
“A clever combination of sliding doors, windows and materials allow the indoor and outdoor areas to merge with the stunning setting that surrounds this home. Interior spaces have been carefully integrated to suit the owners’ lifestyle and reconcile the contemporary renovation with the original build,” they said.
“This is a renovation that has been skilfully constructed, carefully planned and superbly finished.”
The builders’ entries were recognised by members of the Canterbury Region Registered Master Builders and the local building industry at Wigram Airforce Base on Friday, 26 July.
There were 29 Gold Award winners from the Canterbury Region which will now be assessed alongside Gold Award winners from the 10 other regions of the competition to find the National Gold Reserve finalists, which will be announced in August.
National category winners, Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for the Renovation of the Year and the House of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in November.
The Awards are made possible through the support of PlaceMakers, James Hardie, GIB, Nulook, Future-Proof Building, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Carters, ITM, Plumbing World, Resene and Westpac.
