Draft Edgeware Village Master Plan Proceeding

Thursday 25 July 2013

Draft Edgeware Village Master Plan to proceed to the next stage

Christchurch City Council today approved the Shirley/Papanui Community Board's recommendation that hearings will not be necessary for the Draft Edgeware Village Master Plan due to the high level of public support for the Draft Plan.

Urban Design and Regeneration Unit Manager Carolyn Ingles says, "This decision will enable amendments to be made to the Master Plan following consideration of public submissions. This will in turn speed up the process to get this Plan finalised and brought back to the Council for its final sign-off."

Mayor Bob Parker says, "Community leaders, property and business owners and local residents have provided invaluable feedback through the master planning process and the decision not to hold hearings signals a vote of confidence in the Draft Plan.

"Once adopted the Master Plan will provide a platform to guide and support the rebuild and recovery of affected buildings and businesses in Edgeware Village centre. I am confident that this local centre has a promising future; and I look forward to seeing it fulfil its potential," he says.

The Draft Master Plan was available for public comment from the 4 March to 10 April 2013. It received 75 submissions, with 30 of these submitters indicating they wanted to be heard if the opportunity was provided. Of the submitters, 89 per cent agreed with the overall direction, vision and goals of the Draft Plan.

Staff will now work on making amendments with a view to the Plan being adopted in late 2013.
