MANA to Hear Community Thoughts

23 July 2013

PRESS RELEASE

MANA to Hear Community Thoughts on Water Meters, Deep Sea Oil Drilling

Providing water free of charge, keeping the coast free of oil rigs, opposing the proposed super city and providing more housing are among the issues that people will talk about at a community hui being held by MANA Newtown to discuss policy for the upcoming local body elections.

The MANA Movement in Wellington has been developing policy on these issues. Now MANA wants to hear what the community thinks.

MANA Newtown chairperson, Ariana Paretutanganui-Tamati says that the meeting is in line with MANÁ's philosophy of empowering people. Part of the policy is that local government should be by a system of participatory democracy where people actively take part in making decisions about their local services.

The hui will be held at 7pm on Thursday 1 August at Newtown Hall, corner of Constable and Daniell Streets, Newtown.
