Know where to go in an emergency

Know where to go in an emergency

Monday 22 July 2013, 11:13PM

“Talking to my family and friends today I realised how few of us knew where our nearest Civil Defence emergency centre was,” says Onslow-Western Ward Labour Wellington City Council candidate, Malcolm Aitken”

“Like many Wellingtonians I’ve been checking our emergency supplies since yesterday’s earthquake. Making sure we have a tank full of petrol and a bit of cash, plenty of water and our emergency bags packed. Now everyone in my family knows where our nearest centre is, and I encourage everyone else to ensure they know where theirs is too.

“I also urge public office holders, journalists and community leaders to get this message out, actually everyone to get this message out via their friends, family, neighbours and contacts.”

A list of the centres can be found at: http://wellington.govt.nz/about-wellington/emergency-management/civil-defence-centres
