Te Papa to reopen tomorrow
Te Papa will reopen again tomorrow (Tuesday 23 July 2013) following a structural engineering assessment that has confirmed the building is safe to occupy.
Te Papa was closed for the day while engineers carried out the inspection.
Chief Executive Michael Houlihan says the assessment was necessary to make absolutely certain that the building was safe for visitors and staff.
“We want to apologise for inconveniencing people today, particularly as we are currently exhibiting two major international exhibitions, Warhol: Immortal and Colour & Light: Impressionism from France & America, as well as running a number of school holiday activities.
“However we are looking forward to opening as usual in the morning at 10am,” said Michael Houlihan.
The earthquake on Sunday caused only superficial damage at Te Papa with some breakages at the Te Papa Store and movement of some of the exhibits.
