Gardeners can sharpen up in the toolshed

Gardeners can sharpen up in the toolshed

22 July 2013

Have your secateurs seized up? Is your axe too blunt to cut butter? A free public workshop at Hollard Gardens, Kaponga, on Sunday (28 July) will be well worth your while.

The subject is tool maintenance and garden machinery, and the aim is to teach participants how to choose the right tool for the job, and how to take care of garden tools and machines to ensure they last into the future.

Tips and advice will range from sharpening lawnmower blades to the general care of garden implements, particularly those that are not used often.

The workshop hosts will demonstrate:
The best ways to sharpen spades, secateurs and loppers, including what sharpening devices to use.

Why cleaning the tightening nuts can help to extend the life of tools.

How to master the grease gun and identify where grease is best applied on different machinery.

Sunday’s workshop runs from 2pm to 4pm at Hollard Gardens, 1686 Upper Manaia Road, Kaponga.  It is part of a year-round programme of free workshops and other events at Hollard Gardens, Pukeiti and Tupare, the three heritage properties owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region.
