Avoid Travel to Wellington CBD Today
The NZ Transport Agency is advising Wellington commuters to follow the advice of authorities and stay clear of the Wellington CBD today.
While all highways are open, the Transport Agency is urging motorists to heed the advice of the Wellington Region Emergency Management Office and avoid travelling into the Wellington CDB for the remainder of today.
"We urge people to keep the CBD clear and work from home if possible in order to allow authorities to carry out safety checks on buildings and other infrastructure," says Wellington Regional Performance Manager Mark Owen.
Mr Owen says Transport Agency contractors have rigorously checked the condition of the state highway network's bridges and tunnels and is pleased to say no significant issues have been identified.
Motorists are advised to check WREMO's Facebook page for more updates, or checkhttp://wellington.govt.nz
Highway updates are available at www.nzta.govt.nz, 0800 4 HIGHWAYS and on twitter -@nztawgtn.
