Rare chance to explore the Gardens after dark
Tuesday 16 July 2013Rare chance
to explore the Gardens after dark with the MORE FM Grand
Parade
Christchurch Botanic Gardens is doing that rare thing and opening its gates after dark, inviting young and old alike to experience the mystery and atmosphere of the MORE FM Grand Parade, including the city's first-ever fire sculpture, on Saturday 20 July, 5.30pm-7pm.
“It's the 150th anniversary of the Gardens, and they're in the mood for something a little different,” says Christchurch City Council Events Production Team Manager Chloë Dear. “TV2 KidsFest is giving families the opportunity to explore the Gardens by torchlight and create some lifelong memories for the little ones.”
The parade will begin near the kiosk over the footbridge from the Armagh Street entrance car park.
“Bring your own lantern or torch anything that glows, really as well as a mask, a costume, or an instrument and join in the MORE FM Grand Parade,” Ms Dear says. “This twilight event will lead you on a trail full of surprises through the Gardens. Stick around for some post-parade entertainment and the fiery finale featuring Christchurch's first-ever fire sculpture. You'll also get the chance to compete for spot prizes for best lanterns, best costumes and more from MORE FM.”
The MORE FM Grand Parade is the centrepiece evening of the Light Up the Leafy Night series, which opens the Gardens to an audience who've always wanted to see it in a new light. Light Up the Leafy Night runs 5.30pm -7pm from Thursday 18 Sunday 21 and Thursday 25 Sunday 28 July.
The event is free and is suitable for all ages. Booking is not required.
