Russian-born songbird Yulia returning to Rotorua

Russian-born songbird Yulia returning to Rotorua after wowing audience of 51 million in USA

ROTORUA 15.07.13: New Zealand hit singer Yulia is bringing her popular new international show to Rotorua next month after a successful USA career launch.

She will be performing her Chansons d’Amour (Songs of Love) show at Rotorua’s Civic Theatre on 17 August at 8pm.

Russian born Yulia, who became the first New Zealand female vocalist to achieve two back-to-back number one hit albums - Into the West and Montage - will be accompanied on stage by virtuoso musicians brought direct from Europe. She will sing love songs of Europe in Russian, French and English in the intimate French cabaret style of Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich.

Rotorua District Council’s Events & Venues general manager, Peter McLeod, said it will be Yulia’s first appearance in the city since her starring performance at the opening of the Energy Events Centre in 2007.

“Since performing here six years ago, Yulia has gone on to win awards for Best Nationwide Performer in New Zealand and became the Grand Prix winner at the European Song Competition.

“Yulia was handpicked by Pavarotti music producer Craig Leon to sing French and Russian chanson at last year’s live concert recording in France of the hugely successful show ‘Divinas Live at Chambord Castle’, which aired on American television to over 51 million people,” said Mr McLeod.

“We’re so pleased that Yulia has now chosen to celebrate her USA career launch with Rotorua residents, who will no doubt now be even more wowed by her stunning voice and superb live entertainment than they were six years ago.”

Tickets to Yulia’s ‘Chansons d’Amour’ show are $50 and are available from the Convention Centre’s Ticketmaster outlet, online ticketmaster.co.nz or by phone on 0800 111 999.
