Worst of the wet weather has passed

Hi all,

Friday 12 July, 2013

Worst of the wet weather has passed

The flood gates at Moutoa will remain open until around 2pm Saturday although the worst of the wet weather has passed.

Horizons Regional Council group manager operations Allan Cook says the Manawatu River is continuing to rise gradually at the old Teachers’ College monitoring site in Palmerston North and is expected to peak at 5.65 at around 8pm.

Both the Tiraumea River and the Manawatu River at the upper Gorge monitoring site have now peaked.

Horizons’ Emergency Operations Centre has been deactivated however staff will continue to monitor river levels throughout the weekend.

Rain is forecast for eastern parts of the Region on Sunday. However, this is not anticipated to cause any further issues.

Up-to-date information on river heights and rainfall is also available via Horizons 24 hour toll-free Waterline 0508 4 FLOOD or via website www.horizons.govt.nz

A new web camera has also been installed at the Moutoa sluice gates. This will refresh every five minutes and is available to view via the web cams section of Horizons’ website.
