Nominations for local elections open next week

The process for selecting the leaders who will guide our communities through the next three years begins next Friday (19 July) when nominations open for Local Elections 2013.

Candidates are being sought for the Queenstown Lakes District Council and Wanaka Community Board and QLDC CE Adam Feeley said now was the time for those who felt they had something to offer to take the next step.

“Council is there to represent the views and wishes of the community while also making decisions that are in that community’s best interest,” he said.

‘The work is not always easy however it is rewarding.”

Anyone over the age of 18 can stand for election as long as they are a New Zealand citizen and on the electoral roll. Nominations must be supported by two nominees who live in the same ward.

Nominations open for a four week period on Friday 19 July, 2013, closing at noon on Friday 16 August, 2013.

Nomination forms and candidate packs will be available from Council offices or online at www.qldc.govt.nz from Tuesday 16 July, 2013.
