No Trains on Ngauranga-Petone Rail Line - 9am- 3pm Fri

MEDIA STATEMENT

For immediate release

12th July, 2013

KiwiRail inspections have identified minor damage to the sea wall along the Ngauranga-Petone section of the rail line as a result of southerly swells and stormy weather since Wednesday.

Two small areas of damage have been identified and KiwiRail has made the decision to repair these immediately before the weather conditions deteriorate further.

A team will be on site working from 9 am through until 3 pm today (Friday, 12th July) to take advantage of the low tide. Trains will not be able to run during this off-peak travel period.

Normal peak hour Wairarapa Line and Hutt Valley Line services prior to 9 am and after 3 pm will run. At this stage speed restrictions will be applied on some parts of this section of the line in the morning and some minor delays can be expected.

Between 9am and 3 pm shuttle buses will be provided between Petone and Wellington. These will then connect with Hutt Valley rail services from Petone. The Melling line will have all services bus replaced during these hours.

KiwiRail is advising Melling, Hutt Valley Line and Wairarapa Line commuters to check the Tranz Metro website for updated information www.tranzmetro.co.nz
